Lothar Baumgarten - Land of the Spotted Eagle Von der Heydt Museum Wuppertal
In his artistic practice, Lothar Baumgarten (1944–2018) focused on the methods of anthropology and the ordering principles that inform the thought, perception, and representation of cultural difference.
The Von der Heydt Museum Wuppertal has dedicated an exhibition to Baumgarten with works from the Lothar Schirmer collection. Land of the Spotted Eagle is the first tribute to the artist in a German museum since his passing. Here, Baumgarten's work interacts with those from the museum’s new collection, in a presentation titled “Times and Spaces,” allowing the work to be open to new interpretations.
