Giuseppe Penone - The Inner Flow of Life Princess Estelle Cultural Foundation
Giuseppe Penone's new monumental and site-specific sculpture, The Inner Flow of Life, was unveiled today at the Princess Estelle Sculpture Park. The ceremony, led by Prince Daniel of Sweden, marks the inauguration of the park's fifth permanent artwork.
Penone's The Inner Flow of Life is a 10-meter-tall, 60-ton granite and bronze sculpture. It features a tree emerging from the stone's veins, with roots reaching towards the sky. Surrounded by natural boulders from Djurgården, the sculpture symbolizes internal force and the universal flow of life.
The Princess Estelle Cultural Foundation was established in 2019 by Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, named after their daughter, Princess Estelle, to promote cultural activities in the country. The foundation commissions an artist each year to create a site-specific work for its sculpture park at Royal Djurgården in Stockholm.
”The first contact with Giuseppe Penone was made three years ago and has resulted in an absolutely magnificent, unique sculpture on Royal Djurgården. Penone has always worked in dialog with nature, and with The Inner Flow of Life he has transformed this place. Thanks to his work, a seemingly insignificant forest glade in the park has been transformed into a magical area, hopefully a future meeting place.” —Sara Sandström, Executive Director, Princess Estelle Cultural Foundation
