A new, 17-meter-tall sculpture by Giuseppe Penone explores the cyclical nature of life in the middle of an extraordinary desert landscape. The Logic of the Vegetal – Metamorphosis has been unveiled at Desert X AlUla 2024 located in northwest Saudi Arabia. The cast bronze chestnut tree is surrounded by fossilized tree trunks that hover between living organism and mineral state, encouraging visitors to reflect on the transformations that occur over time.

The third edition of Desert X AlUla, a collaboration between Desert X and the Royal Commission for AlUla, curated by Maya El Khalil and Marcello Dantas, explores the theme "In the Presence of Absence" by posing the question, 'What cannot be seen?'
