Marian Goodman Gallery is pleased to present Journal (2022), a limited-edition digital artwork by Bruce Nauman. In this work, Nauman continues his investigations into temporality and preservation through technology by examining a historical text rendered in 3D.

For the new project, Nauman devised a volumetric 3D model of the book, “The Journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.” Written by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, the journals chronicle the period between April 7 and July 27, 1805.

The iPad containing the artwork is placed in a custom hand-bound presentation box made by bookbinder Charlene Matthews, with input from the artist. The work is signed, numbered and dated, and sold as an edition of 15 with 2 artist’s proofs.
