Cristina Iglesias Royal Academy of Arts
Cristina Iglesias’s new large-scale installation Wet Labyrinth (with Spontaneous Landscape) is a temporary site-specific work commissioned for the Annenberg Courtyard of the Royal Academy of Arts, London, realized two years after Iglesias was awarded the Academy’s Architecture Prize in 2020. This immersive installation is the most recent in a continued series of “pasillos vegetales” works (vegetation rooms) and is conceived to bring the experience of intimacy and landscape to a public urban space.
Iglesias’s work confronts the viewer with a juxtaposition between fictional and real images of nature, revealed and hidden in the viewpoints and reflections of the labyrinth that composes the center of the piece. The installation acts as a refuge, creating a space for wonder and reflection in the courtyard.
