See The Vision, Grab The Vision is pleased to announce that OUT OF SIGHT (2016), a work in the form of a popular children’s game by the late artist Lawrence Weiner, will be exhibited across the Messeplatz during Art Basel from June 13 to 19, 2022. 

OUT OF SIGHT will be presented in language, Weiner’s signature material. It takes the form of a hopscotch board (or marelle in French), and uses a combination of wit, whimsy and bold graphics to engage the public in a game of chance and movement.

According to Weiner, OUT OF SIGHT allows a person “with whatever situation they find themselves in, the minute they have any thoughts about themselves going FROM HERE TO THERE,” to stand in front of the work and realize “they first have to imagine themselves doing it, that is, ASSUMING A POSITION.” 

Art Basel’s display of OUT OF SIGHT will be the largest marelle to date and will be presented in the three official languages of Switzerland: German, French, and Italian as well as English.
