Tacita Dean: Artist Focus Videoex, Switzerland
Videoex, Switzerland’s only festival dedicated to experimental film and video, will offer screenings of several of Dean's films including "Disappearance at Sea "and "Fernsehturm." Tacita Dean's works are shown almost exclusively in galleries within the context of an exhibition, making this event a rare viewing opportunity to see a considerable amount of her filmic work.
Tacita Dean enjoys an international reputation thanks to her artistic work with film, photography, painting, drawing, sound installation and visual narrative. Since the mid-1990s, film and photography have been her preferred mediums, and she is best known for her experimental films, which focus not least on the advantages of filming with celluloid over digital recordings. Over the past 20 years, the British European artist has produced a large and compelling body of work characterized by observational acuity and an eye for compositions of unexpected significance. Dean's commitment to celluloid reflects an intimate understanding of the medium, extending to her belief that her films should be seen exclusively as 16mm / 35mm projections.
