Sabine Moritz - Les cieux Le Château–Centre d’Art Contemporain et du Patrimoine d’Aubenas
The Château d’Aubenas is proud to present the first monographic exhibition of Sabine Moritz in a French institution. Accompanied by a catalogue, the exhibition highlights a pivotal moment in the artist’s career, when abstract painting emerged in her practice in 2015.
Born in 1969 in Quedlinburg (former East Germany), Moritz emigrated to West Germany in the 1980s. Initially known for her figurative drawings inspired by her childhood in the former German Democratic Republic, Moritz gradually moved away from narration to embrace a gestural and vibrant approach to painting. In her canvases, color and texture unfold freely, immersing the viewer in a sensorial space.
Her work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Kunsthalle Rostock and the Kunstverein Bremerhaven in Germany, at the Fondation 11 Lijnen in Belgium, at the Olivia Foundation in Mexico.
