Overview
The Marian Goodman Gallery is very pleased to announce its first exhibition with British artist Steve McQueen. The exhibition will open on May 22nd and continue through June 28th.

He attended the Chelsea School of Art, London from 1989 to 1990 and then went on to Goldsmith College from 1990 to 1993 where he earned a BA in Fine Art with first class honors. In addition, he finished his studies at the Tisch School of Arts at New York University from 1993 to 1994 in the film department. He was awarded the ICA London Futures Award in 1996.
There will be three films by McQueen ongoing during the course of this exhibition: two of which are a part of a trilogy, Five Easy Pieces(1995),and Bear (1993) as well as the most recent piece, Just Above My Head (1996).
The following is an excerpt from a recent catalogue text on Steve McQueen written by Jon Thompson:
"As far as Steve McQueen is concerned it is important to address yourself to the topic of cinema before you start speaking about film; cinema being the narrative form that gives shape and purpose to film as a language. For him also, the cinematic experience is a very physical one that carries it beyond the reach of the notion of reading; beyond the reach of semiotics." 1
