Both statues were made by the same sculptor, Alexander Doyle, a well-known artisan of the time. Here, they are stored in a Homeland Security plywood shed with a dirt floor. It took nearly two years of political infighting and legal action for the mayor of the city, Mitch Landrieu, and the City Council to enforce a bill calling for the removal of these monuments.
